Form follows Function
Form follows function is a principle associated with modern architecture and industrial design in the 20th century. The principle is that the shape of a building or object should be primarily based upon its intended function or purpose.Source: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Form_follows_function
I believe the difficulties I've had in trying to make a successful, more unique piece, of my initial idea, are due to the above design model. Forcing a form which doesn't follow its function, is like trying to fit a square peg in a round hole.
My idea wasn't imagined as three-dimensional, it's uniqueness comes from the clever interaction on a two-dimensional plane. As soon as I change the shape of the Installation, I lose its main selling point. I'm confident I can now produce an innovative and well-thought out Installation. I've learnt a lot from this process.
