Brief Summary, Shortlist and Lecture

Summary

This module aims to give students experience of working to an industry set brief of their choice. Students must make appropriate selections, both in their choice of brief and in their response to that brief, and then complete the work submitting what is required on the brief.

For this brief, I will need to make sure that I select a DNAD brief and answer it, as well as write up note from visiting industry professionals. I will also need to evalutate my current portfolio status and how I can prepare myself for employment.

Shortlist

I've had a day to read over each brief; below is my current shortlist. Those in red I have dismissed, those in green I've kept for further evaluation.

  • Aviva's Open Brief
  • Installation
  • Make Your Mark
  • Moving Image
  • Illustration
  • Digital Design
  • Digital Advertising
  • Typographic
Installation

With an archive spanning generations, and original items from Charles Dickens and The Beatles that are quite literally priceless, how can Coutts showcase their incredible history to a new audience?

Typographic

Create a series of typographically focused posters for the iconic Ministry of Sound nightclub. Each poster needs to be relevant for three-months, clearly communicating dates and DJs, displaying the epic and global character of the club, whilst still making a powerful impact to a fast-paced audience.

Lecture

Todays exercise with Sue involved a mock situation, where we were handed a random DNAD brief and had to prepare an answer, in groups. We were taught how best to go about this and had to report back with theoretical answers towards the end of the lesson.

Summary

We were handed the Coutt's brief.

  • Researched Coutts: Who? What? Where?
  • Coutts' Audience: Who?
  • Coutts' previous Installations
  • Interactive Installation examples
Whilst researching, we were constantly taking notes, formulating ideas and bringing them together to create solutions. As an outcome, we shared several ideas to our class; in doing so I began to think, more and more, that this brief might be for me.
